President's Message
by
Priscilla Tan, CC, President (2009/2010)
Dear
fellow toastmasters and friends, it has been 6 months into
this term and I am really excited about this e-Newsletter.
Going
forward, paperless is the way. This term, Vice President
Public Relations, TM Martin Li has initiated the idea to
have an e-Newsletter. An e-Newsletter can reach out to more
people and it is also more environmentally friendly.
The
hot topic for last month was on climate change. Let's do
our part to save the earth. Do not belittle each individual's
efforts as the cumulative effect of it is tremendous. It
all begins with us, each individual matters.
For
members who have been with the Club for many years, you
would recall that we used to mail out program sheets to
members. During the term 2007/2008, we changed to sending
the program sheet out via email or better known as e-blast.
It might
have met with some resistance when it first started, however,
I am sure now almost all members are comfortable with receiving
the program sheet via email.
Similarly
for the e-Newsletter, we will definitely adapt to it well.
It is
always good to try new things and gain new experience. Even
if we may resist the idea initially, if we are able to accept
the change, we may come to realize that change is for the
better.
A friend
wrote to me, "If you have things you wanted to try
or do but wasn't sure, you should at least consider the
possibility and work it out as a possibility first. You
will find out, as I have, that it's possible despite the
challenges."
Another
change, though not so recent, still poses a challenge to
us - the new Competent Leadership Manual. The new Competent
Leadership Manual was introduced in July 2006. Effective
from July 2008, the only way to achieve the Competent Leadership
award is to complete this new Competent Leadership Manual.
We have
received feedback from members that they do not quite understand
how the new Competent Leadership Manual works. I will share
with you in another article in this e-Newsletter on how
to achieve the Competent Leadership award.
I am
sure we will appreciate the beauty and benefits of the new
Competent Leadership Manual once the "mystery"
is cleared.
Hope
you will find the e-Newsletter enriching. Happy Reading!
